Another request – raccoons! Today I focused on drawing three different raccoons that I will fashion into a proper repeating pattern tomorrow. Today I arranged them in a cute little raccoon tableau. It works best as a sticker, I think. See them on Redbubble!
Into my second month. I am patting myself on the back!
Today, I wanted to spend a little more time on a single element that will be worked into a full pattern. My idea is to have a flock of NYC pigeons walking around as the pattern – an organic, scattered pattern rather than a well defined grid.
Here’s my first pass at the style, although I’m not completely convinced that it’s what I’ll end up with. I’m gonna sleep on it. Just one pigeon today. Once I’m really happy with the style I’ll finish up 6 or 7 more pigeons to create the pattern from.
I did put this up on Redbubble, too! See ya tomorrow!

I’ve been enjoying doing these portraits, but I’m missing the patterns. Starting Saturday I’ll be back to patterns.
Today is the last day of my Geometric design sprint. Today I wanted to do a herringbone or chevron pattern. Next I think I may do designs for kid’s patterns. We’ll see! Who knows what I’ll set out to do and what will come out the other end – it surprises me nearly every day. Here’s the Redbubble link.
Today has been the most challenging of all. We had a system incident that started late in the afternoon and continued well into the evening. Then I finally dragged myself away at a time that I could leave it with someone else to babysit to make dinner, spend time with my youngest, read him books and put him to bed.
So, as it’s 10pm now, I’m checking in with work again to ensure that all is well. I really threw this pattern together – it is slapdash, unrefined, and I threw a well used color palette on it (granted, a color palette that I love). But I do like that it’s has a fun and energetic feel.
Anyway, here it is – thrown together and thrown onto Redbubble!
This one was my husband’s idea. He said “You should do stripes that go from fat to thin one way, and then fat to thin the other way, and they should be gradients each way.”
So I gave that a go! The first design was straight stripes, but I just can’t. So I did some duplicating and off-setting, and played with the layer blending modes until I liked it.
It’s bright and rainbowy and feels very cheerful. Plus stripes are the easiest things in the world next to polka dots to make into a repeat pattern.

Geometric design theme continues. Today I went for the classic chevron shape. I had some real difficulties getting this one into a repeat. Gorgeous overlapping shapes resulted in a woven textile feel. It actually reminds me a lot of a scarf that I knit many years ago.
Other than that, inspiration was elusive today. I’m happy that I made a passable pattern, but in all honesty its creation was not coming from a place of excitement or passion, but just a let’s get this done attitude. To be expected when creating a design each and every day!
Redbubble! Until tomorrow!
